I am delighted and honoured to be nominated for the 2013 Naace ICT Secondary Impact award. I have been asked to put together some supporting evidence for the award which is understandable yet quite a challenge. Firstly because it isn't in the nature of many teachers to look back and reflect on brilliance, but rather strive for further improvement. Secondly as once I've started looking back there are so many things that I want to identify as having impact.
I was appointed a teacher of 'English, History and IT' at Neale-Wade Community College from September 1999. My first lesson was using an Acorn Archimedes. Recently the classroom block where I delivered this lesson was demolished as part of the BSF (Building Schools for the Future) redevelopment that I played a central role in shaping. The new learning spaces encompass a wi-fi cloud, immediate support for BOYB (Bring your own browser), open IT study areas and engaging IT across the school. We've kept the Acorn to see how far we've come...
Over the years I have created and developed a vast range of resources. Everything has been shared online for free at the point of impact - with the students. I believe I can trace the growing impact of my work from my very first classes:
These are the aspects I'm most proud of. They haven't made a global difference like some of my other resources - but I feel I've setup students from March and the local area so they can have a the global impact and be confident users of innovative IT in the future.
