I started checking out some of your flash tutorials. Do you have a tut on making a background in flash. We (my 10 year old and I) were going to do the game where you shoot up at flying objects, butdidn't know how to make a background.
Can you guide me to a simple background making tut?
ThanX, Andy!

I will expand the tutorials further over the coming year. In terms of making a background for a game, it really is the simple matter of starting with a blank colour and then adding what you want. Thus you can find images or graphics from the internet or - best of all - draw in your own items.
When you start you'll have a blank background - just experiment and play with the software options. In my now outdated but still useful guide you can find some help:
http://www.reviseict...roduction.shtml
Also see this basic introduction to the key tools:
http://www.effective...e/view.php?id=5

This is all you need to create a background - just draw with the tools

Thanx- the biggest things were, I wasn't sure about size. Or if there was certain format.
New, I realize that I probably should've just put that.
Mostly, it's my 10 year old son (Seth) that's my inspiration for learning flash- WITH him. He's creative- I'm not. His first drawing in CS4 was a 'Droid' (Star Wars) and it was really good. He's wanting to make the fox shooter into a Droid - and shoot bullets at 'bad guys'.
His teacher this year (1st one I have had 'reservations' about- actually uses the games I make from your games- and I have him help come up w/the questions and answers- as practice & I know it helps his enthusiasm- especially when he can go in- with a web address and when she pulls 'em up on the SmartBoards I'm sure his heart swells with pride. He told me that his friends think it's cool that his mom let's him come up with the questions & that she 'makes' the games for his class. I didn't realize until recently that he didn't realize that I didn't do the graphics. He told me doesn't care- and they didn't either- 'cuz no one else's mom does that. So, he's cool, I'm cool- and his grades went up.
Just like any good teacher, I'll FIND a way to excite them about learning! Even though he's in public school now, that DEFINITELY doesn't mean I don't still 'home-school' him as well.
He loves science, is great at math and is creative. Isn't all that some of the 'better' prerequisites to have for AS3? I figure Flash is a good place to start at his age- AND he's more than willing.
Ok- i'm off my soapbox- there I go again- =0)

By the way- I've probably told you- but I'll tell ya' again anyway- I have 3 sons. My oldest is Seth- he's 10, and my 2nd son is Saul- he's 8 and we also have Cyrus- he's almost 28 months and MEAN -seriously!
Seth plans to become an inventor and a scientist.
Seth is planning to come up with a serum that will allow Saul to 'control' being The Incredible Hulk.
If you hear of any progression in this field, please send the information my way.
They plan to use this, to fight 'bad guys' and put them in jail.
They're next plan, is to invent a 'time machine' so that they can go back in time to 'stop' John Wilkes Booth (the 'actor' that assassinated President Abraham Lincoln).
I've done something right, don't you agree?

All sounds good to me. At my school we're encouraging all students to learn Flash. I say encouraging but I've actually put it as a core part of the ICT curriculum, so they have to. Even this week where Year 7s (11-12 year olds) were learning how to create a Funky disco advert they get really enthusiastic about Flash. See http://www.effective.../view.php?id=10 - I find things like this really useful as it shows students in a really step-by-step way how to create something - again establishing the enthusiasm to experiment and develop their own creations.
To change the size of a Flash file you can right-click on the main Flash stage (where you draw or add items) and select 'Document properties' or there are several other methods, such as changing the dimensions when you first create the Flash document or looking at the Properties panel.
